HALU BERITI - filter roast

peach tea/cranberry

Roasted Thursday 15th April 2021

This coffee is processed at the Halu Beriti Washing Station in the village of Beriti, located in the Gedeo zone region between the towns of Yirga Cheffe & Gedeb. The washing station was established in 2014 & processes the coffee of 750 small-holder farmers.

The farmers grow coffee on very small plots of land along with their own food crops. These are high altitude farms with fertile soil & mild temperatures that are perfect for growing quality coffee.

Once the coffee is harvested it is delivered to the coffee washing station where the cherries are sorted for any that are over or under-ripe, de-pulped, fermented, soaked, washed then dried on raised beds for 7-14 days.

This lot is Ethiopia Landrace. Ethiopia has many thousands of indigenous coffee varieties, we've seen figures of between 6-10000. Some of these have names, there are indeed cultivars {Bourbon, 74110} & hybrid coffees {Ababuna} available. Ethiopian Landrace are coffees that have come from the coffee forests, these are domesticated, locally adapted traditional varieties.
