About the farmer(s)

Chelchele - Ethiopian Landrace - special prep [washed] — Ethiopia

This lot was produced at the Celchele Washing Station in Kochere, Yirga Cheffe.
The farmers who deliver to the washing staion live locally & farm on small, 1/2 hectare plots of land where the coffee trees grow in amongst the family food crops.
This is a special preparation lot from selected farmers. Cherres were harvested 5% just ripe, 90% ripe & 5% over-ripe & delivered to the washing station where they are washed & sorted to remove defects, de-pulped, wet-fermented, washed, dry-fermented, soaked & then dried on raised "African beds" for around 7-14 days.

This lot is Ethiopia Landrace. Ethiopia has thousands of indigenous coffee varieties. We've seen figures of between 6-10000. Some of these have names. There are cultivars, [Bourbon, 74110] & hybrid coffees [Ababuna] available. Ethiopian Landrace are coffees that have come from the coffee forests. They are domesticated, locally adapted traditional varieties.
