GISHEKE - filter roast ⚡️new⚡️
Roasted Monday 17th February 2020
This coffee is processed at the Gisheke Coffee Washing Station which overlooks Lake Kivu. Coffee is grown by 787 smallholder farmers on tiny plots of land in amongst the family food crops.
Gisheke can only be reached by boat at present, the roads hav not been completed. Just under half of the coffee comes from Bushungwe Island, the rest from other small islands & around the Gisheke area.
The farmers harvest ripe coffee cherries & deliver them to Gisheke Coffee Washing Station by boat, bike or by feet. There the cherries are hand sorted to remove any under or over-ripe cherries then placed on raised beds to dry. When the ideal moisture is reached the dried cherry is mechanically removed.
This lot is a 13/14 screen selection, this means only beans that fit through a 13/64th inch or 14 /64th inch screen are selected, larger beans are put in a different lot..
Cultivar - 100% Bourbon a natural mutation of Typica originating from what was formerly called Île Bourbon. The colour of the cherry can be yellow, pink, orange or in this case red.
