About the farmer(s)
KARATU
— Kenya
Karatu is one of three coffee factories [washing stations] owned by members of the Gitwe Farmers Cooperative Society [FCS]. The washing station was built in 1965 & processes the coffee from 800 co-op members.
The coffee cherries are selectively picked & taken to the coffee factory the same day. They are hand-sorted to remove over or under-ripe cherries, de-pulped, fermented, washed, then sun-dried on raised beds.
