Kii is one of three coffee factories owned by members of the Rung'eto Farmers Cooperative Society. The coffee factory was built in '95 & is situated at the foot of Mt. Kenya, next to the Kii river which gives the factory its name.
During harvest, around 850 farmers hand-pick ripe coffee cherries & deliver to Kii the same day. On arrival at the coffee factory, the cherries are floated in water channels & hand-sorted to remove defects, de-pulped, dry-fermented overnight, washed & then spread out to dry on raised beds for 10-12 days.
