Muchagara is one of twelve coffee factories {washing stations} owned by the Baragwi Farmers Cooperative Society {FCS}. It was opened in 1959 making it the oldest factory in Kirinyaga. Muchagara  has over 1700 co-op members who grow coffee in the surrounding area.

Coffee cherries are taken to the coffee factory the same day they're harvested, where they are sorted for any over or under ripe cherries, pulped, fermented, washed & sun-dried on raised beds.
