About the farmer(s)

Ndumberi — Kenya

The Ndumberi Coffee Factory is one of three factories owned by members of the Ndumberi Farmers Cooperative Society. The other two are Riabai & Ngaita. The factory sits on the slopes of the Aberdare Mountain Range. 2600 Co-op members supply the Ndumberi Washing Station. They grow coffee on small plots of land. The average farm has around 300 trees.
At harvest, coffee cherries are hand-picked & then taken to the factory the same day. There they are sorted for any over or under-ripe cherries or foreign material which is removed. The cherries are then de-pulped & left to dry ferment overnight. The next day the coffee beans are washed, soaked, and then spread out to dry on raised beds for 7-15 days.
