About the farmer(s)
Peterson Family - Pacamara [anaerobic natural]
— Panama
Hacienda Esmeralda was founded in 1940 by Hans Elliot. In November 1967 it was purchased by Rudolph Peterson as a retirement project. In 1973 his son Price took over the farm. In '97 the family purchased another farm, Jamarillo, this is where in 2004, Geisha was rediscovered. Hacienda Esmeralda is now run by Rachel & Daniel Peterson.
El Velo is one of the newest of Hacienda La Esmeralda’s farms. Purchased in 2012. This 50-hectare farm is the only one where the flat landscape allows a more uniform pattern, in rows. The farm is planted with Geisha, Catuai, Laurina, SL34 & this Pacamara cultivar. The farm is planted from 1,650-1,900 meters, although the nature reserve continues up the mountain all the way to 2,900 meters, and is home to the famous Quetzal and other endangered birds.

Pacamara is a coffee cultivar developed in 1958 by El Salvador's ISIC by crossing Pacas [a Bourbon mutation] and Maragogipe [a Typica mutation]. The idea was to cross the dwarf size & high production of Pacas with the higher cup quality of Maragogipe.
