About the farmer(s)
Merly León - Yellow Bourbon [washed]
— Peru
Merly León grew this Yellow Caturra at her farm, La Palta, named after one large avocado tree on the land. Merly along with her family have been cultivating coffee here for seven years. The farm is situated high in the Andes at a remarkable altitude of 2236 meters. This lot is 100% Caturra, a mutation of Bourbon discovered in Brasil in 1937. The plant is a dwarf so it can be planted close together resulting in more production per hectare. Caturra has good flavour characteristics but is susceptible to disease. The yellow cherry rather than the more common red cherry is due to a recessive gene.
